This powerful free ad technique was probably first discovered out there in the caves or wherever else the history of mankind begun. And yet this weapon has been used way too sparingly over the centuries. It is so powerful that those surprisingly few who have stumbled on to it and appreciated and respected its power have ended up with results beyond their wildest dreams

It’s a FREE SAMPLE.

Picture a small business selling doughnuts at a street corner. Potential clients in their hundreds pass by and ignore the seller’s smile and well displayed juicy-looking doughnuts. At the end of the day, he has barely sold a dozen.

Then a simple selling system involving tiny, miniature versions of the doughnuts being given away for free to passersby is introduced. A few people stop to sample the free doughnuts, at least half of them end up purchasing a doughnut or two. The small business owner does some arithmetic at the end of a hectic day. The bill for the samples was high, but his cash box is bulging like it never has before and the sheer volumes of business has reduced the expense for the free samples to a tiny fraction of his takings.

No matter how complex your business is, it can benefit tremendously from the power of a free sample. A few more examples;

An office cleaning concern wanted to expand its’ client base to restaurants but had a lot of difficulties making any head way until they came up with a simple selling system. They approached restaurants and offered to clean up free of charge, the only condition was that the owner sees the dirt that will be cleaned off their premises before it’s disposed of. (If you know the right places to look, any premises will give you a load of dirt enough to make anybody sick.)

Well, almost anybody because only 80% of the restaurants that were cleaned free of charge, signed up to have the firm clean up their premises on a regular basis. Not good enough for the city health inspectors but an unbelievably high percentage for any selling system. It naturally revolutionized this cleaning business.

A media company was facing very stiff competition getting advertisements into their newspaper. They designed a simple system where the company sales representatives approached a carefully selected client list with samples of their advertisements re-designed and placed on a dummy page. The response rate? Well, 4 out of every 10 clients approached in this way signed up for advertising space on the spot.

A company selling solar panels in the heart of Africa wasn’t making much headway until they bit the bullet with the following crazy selling system. They found a simple way to assess the income capabilities of rural homes that had no access to electricity. They would then knock on doors and offer to install solar electricity free of charge. They would then come back a week later and if the house owner liked it, they would pay for it and keep it. If they didn’t the solar firm would simply take their equipment and leave. One out of every three installations paid and kept their solar systems.

And I could go on and on with hundreds of other examples.

Free ads do not have to be some magical website you are looking for that will miraculously give you tons of sales. Actually there are free ads in simple every day things we do that can revolutionize your business and whatever it is that you sell for a living.

a) Comments written in Facebook.
Everybody is on Facebook. Well… almost everybody because you may be reading this article and you are one of the very few who does not have a Facebook account. So here is how to do it. Let’s assume that you sell some powerful new stain remover that deals even with banana stains. Just post a comment bout your most annoying banana stain. Don’t advertise anything yet. Chances are that other people who have had stain problems will also write their experiences by making comments to your post. Wait for a few comments and if they are slow in coming call your friends and ask them to make comments. After a few comments make one of your own offering the solution. No harm in including a contact.

What you need to know is that whatever you write on Facebook is permanent. That means that done properly this free ad will still be helping you sell a year or even 10 years from now.

b) SMS message
Don’t spam people with SMS messages. Instead make contact with individual leads. Let’s say you sell some beautiful shirts for men at your small shop. Put three coins in your left pocket at the beginning of every day and make a deliberate effort to be friendly and talk to 3 strangers in the course of the day. Maybe somebody you sit next to on the commute to work in the morning. Or a guy you were on the queue with at the bank. Every time you meet a new person and get their cell phone number, shift one coin from one pocket to the other. And so by the end of the week you should have 15 prospects you can send a friendly sms to introducing your product/service. Your sms could read something like this: “Hi, John here. We met at the bank on Tues. 4got to compliment u on ur excellent taste in shirts & to tell u that I sell them for a living and want to show u some heavily discounted ones. Peter.”

c) Email message
This technique above can apply to emails as well.

d) Free sample
Free samples are the most powerful and effective free ads known to mankind. You just have to be very careful about one thing. And that is DON’T dish them out at random. This can destroy you because it will make your product look cheap and of little or no value. However if you distribute flyers that are coupons that allow the bearer to claim a free sample you will be shocked at the results. This free ad can work for some products that are very difficult to sell.

The call came in very early in the morning and actually woke me up.

“Hello,” I croaked into my cell phone trying to hide my annoyance and irritation at being woken up so early.

“I got my first customer.”

I tried to quickly figure out who this guy with such terrible telephone manners was.

“Who is this?” I asked.

The excited almost breathless voice on the other hand identified itself. I had organized what I call a free ads for life program for this particular client. I remembered him well mainly because he had been very skeptical right from the beginning. He had told me he was sure this was not going to work and that he was wasting his money.

And so a prospective client had keyed in those words on Google and found him and presto he had gotten business worth a substantial amount.

This is what I call my free ads for life program where I do a little research first to find out the keyword phrases that prospective clients are using to look for a particular service or product. I then set up a simple web page and optimize it so that those guys desperate for the particular product will quickly find it. That’s all. Simple and it works. The best free advertising you will ever do.

Now most people don’t understand that even if your web page optimized for search engines like Google is found in this way by only two or three people every day, those few people are much more valuable than receiving thousands of visits from people who are just curious.

What is the big difference?

The difference is that those two or three people are interested in exactly what it is that you offer as opposed to thousands who found you through some link they saw on a website they visited.

It is the difference between a curious walk-in client you get in your shop and another who comes in and specifically asks: “are you the people with this special sale on car parts?” Who is much more likely to buy?

There are numerous small businesses and even larger ones that have discovered this free ads for life secret and the impact has been phenomenal for them.
